West Michigan Companies Raise $42K for Kids’ Food Basket

June 30, 2020

Grand Rapids, MI – For the past six years, Service Express has hosted the annual golf tournament previously known as the Feed a School for a Year Golf Classic. The goal is to support local non-profit Kids’ Food Basket in its mission to help children in West Michigan reach their full potential by gaining access to fresh, nutritious food.

This year’s golf outing transitioned from a day on the green to a virtual fundraiser due to the impacts of COVID-19. Service Express employees, along with Andy J. Egan Co.Vista IT GroupWells Fargo Advisor Bruce G. PientonMercantile Bank of Michigan, Morgan Stanley Grand Rapids and NVINT, participated in raising money for the organization. With their generous contributions, $42,335 was donated to Kids’ Food Basket to help fund their various initiatives such as the Sack Supper Program along with Urban Growing and Experiential Learning.

“We believe that children should be able to focus on learning and having fun, not worry about where their next meal is coming from – that’s where Kids’ Food Basket comes in,” said Service Express President and CEO Ron Alvesteffer. “And it’s why we decided to create the Driving Out Hunger Golf Classic. Not only is this a fun event, it feels even better knowing the funds raised help meet the needs of so many kids in West Michigan!”

With generous support from sponsors and participants, more than $240K has been donated through these golf tournaments to Kids’ Food Basket over the last seven years. Although this year’s event didn’t turn out as expected, we’re looking forward to next year!

“We are so grateful for community partners such as Service Express, who through their care for West Michigan children enables Kids’ Food Basket to do this critical work every day,“ said President and Founding CEO Bridget Clark Whitney. “Your gift feeds hope for our future – and it’s needed now more than ever.”
