In the UK alone, 39% of businesses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/cyber-security-breaches-survey-2022\/cyber-security-breaches-survey-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported cyberattacks<\/a> in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-margin-bottom-xsmall\">No business is immune to cyber threats, or physical threats to systems or buildings. To address the increasing risk to businesses, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/prudential-regulation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Prudential Regulation Authority<\/a> required institutions under their regulation to identify their important business services and define and outline their impact tolerances by March 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-margin-bottom-medium has-light-blue-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-margin-bottom-zero is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-margin-bottom-zero is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-margin-bottom-zero has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Important Business Services (IBS)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-margin-bottom-zero\">Firms will identify their IBS and identify importance based on \u201ca service being provided to an external end user and having the potential to threaten regulatory objectives in the event of a disruption\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-margin-bottom-zero is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-margin-bottom-zero has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Impact Tolerances&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-margin-bottom-zero\">Firms will set impact tolerances for their IBS and provide \u201ctime-based metrics, and well-defined thresholds, at which the disruption would threaten regulatory objectives\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-margin-bottom-medium is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-next-for-pra-regulated-businesses\">What\u2019s next for PRA-regulated businesses?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PRA-regulated institutions must meet the third and final policy expectation in March 2025. The additional time allows for planning, testing, redefining and improving processes, as well as ensuring the monitoring of risks &#8211;<strong> cyber, physical and societal\/political.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-margin-bottom-medium has-light-blue-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-f3c930de wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-margin-bottom-zero has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Mapping and Testing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Firms will be able to demonstrate the ability to stay within their impact tolerances. Testing strategies should be based on relevant risks and vulnerabilities and \u201cinform how firms monitor risks to their operational resilience and increase the maturity of their overall processes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-margin-bottom-zero is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-businesses-strengthen-cyber-resilience\">How can businesses strengthen cyber resilience?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-margin-bottom-xsmall\">There are a number of ways businesses can safeguard against a cyber threat and comply with the PRA\u2019s policies using secure technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-margin-bottom-xsmall\">Earlier this year, IBM announced their new FlashSystem storage offering, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/blogs\/systems\/cyber-resiliency-with-ibm-flashsystem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">IBM Cyber Vault<\/a>.
